Video Playback on Infotainment Screen

Do anybody know how I can play video/films via the infotainment system? I am now getting bored whilst driving with the ACC engaged and need something to watch on longer journeys.:surprise: Just joking! But it would be handy if say I have to park and wait for someone, instead of just listening to music. I have a Chinese import double din unit fitted on another vehicle and via an SD card I can play film etc. It even has an option where I can override the watch only whilst park mode... I'm also sure I could access video on the screen of my old Mercedes CLS a while ago...but perhaps it was via the DVD which I think the Arteon only has CD. ANY IDEAS OTHER THAN USING A TABLET ?

I don't think the factory system allows you to play movies even when you're driving, at least I can't find a way to do it. So you'll have to wait for something from the aftermarket or mount a tablet. All I found was this; "Film playback from AVI, MPEG, Divx, H.246, and DVD from SD, USB and DVD data carriers".
So it depends on USB file formatting to play movies?
There must be some way to tap into the video input/output as I have seen an app somewhere where you can monitor via video, rear passengers, presumably via a camera.
My Arteon unfortunately do not have the reversing camera option (Which was on a test drive vehicle I used so I assumed it was standard ) but it shows that there must be some way to access video data. BTW Just as 'a shot in the dark' I loaded a DVD disc into the glovebox mounted CD player.....and as expected it wouldn't read :plain:

From what i noticed with other cars its that car makers often limit our ability to make our own changes to the stock system, in that case you might need a module or some external components. Best to ask some audio/video shop about it.

Yes. I think you are quite right. As you say I think I will speak to an ICE specialist and see if they can suggest anything. It's a shame really as I'm sure a good quality video capability is inbuilt to the unit.

I did notice a MirrorLink option on the infotainment screen. Has anybody used this as yet? Perhaps one can them stream video to the screen from a smartphone. ANY THOUGHTS?:plain:

I'm not sure on the trouble most people are having, mine plays any DVD fine, multiple formats via SD Card/usb however I have found it hit and miss when playing from USB.

I load music videos up and play them, when the car is in motion I get a black screen with just audio and as soon as the car gets to a stop at lights...the video kicks in.
You can install Video in Motion via ODBEleven, believe its illegal while the vehicle is in motion (and voids warranty if you don't revert it before showing VW ofcourse haha).

Also has some other cool features like 30 colours instead of 3 for the dash

Mine works just the way you describe. Not sure either why others are having problems with this?
Are there any chances this might be exclusive to a certain build range? I have seen this happen in the past but often automakers don't disclose details leaving us out in the cold to figure it out on our own.
