February is going to be an exciting month for those of you in the States who were waiting for the Arteon to go on sale. We don't know the exact specs of the U.S. model, but we'll know more when it's first introduced to North America at the Chicago Auto Show. Car Reports says it may have a 276-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Its just too bad that we won't get a diesel option because I think if they want sales volume then offering a powertrain that's cheaper to own overall and even in the short term that families will use then diesel is to be considered unless we will see a Hybrid version soon enough.

There just isn't as much of a demand from the general populace in the U.S. for diesel powered small cars outside of trucks. Looking at sales numbers, they probably found the most money to be made in petrol though some people will be left disappointed. But there's still much to love even without a diesel engine, there's a giant boot and ample rear passenger legroom, beautiful interior, plenty of safety gear and more.

There is plenty of demand for diesels in the US, but VW can not sell them even if they wanted to as part of the settlement agreement with the EPA. VW made the deal to no more diesels and push forward with electric development. If diesels were available they would sell a lot more of them than electric cars at this point.
