New Arteon - wrong spec delivered

Hi all

First post so sorry if its in the wrong place!

Bit of a weird one, but I'm hoping someone with a bit more technical knowledge will be able to give me some guidance. We ordered a new Arteon in December for a January delivery. We ended up taking a showroom model, however this was on the basis that it had all of the things on our 'shopping list'. One of the biggest things we wanted was 360 degree sensors because of a very narrow driveway. Long story short, they basically told us that the car had this when it only had front and rear sensors with a reversing camera. After a lot of back and forth they've accepted that they messed up on this and told us the car had it when it didn't.

The biggest issue I have with them now is whether the additional sensors can be retrofitted into the car and, if so, would this be some form of unofficial sensor that doesn't link up to the infotainment unit or could it be retrofitted to provide the 360 area view that it should have included. They've told me that it's literally physically impossible to fit sensors into the car, either the area view ones or otherwise, and that the only way to do this is during production. This seems a bit suspect to me and given their track record of trying to backtrack and avoid blame, part of me wonders if they are just trying to get out of a big cost issue on their end and looking to get me to accept a service plan instead!

Is this sort of side sensor retrofit a possibility, or are they telling the truth that it either has to go in during production or else it doesn't go in at all.

Really appreciate any and all comments

I don't know about physically impossible, but it would probably be a very complicated process. Luckily there are quite a few universal aftermarket 360 degree cameras on the market now. I'd have a look into some of the kits from Rydeen and Brandmotion. There are also some cheaper ones up on Amazon but its going to be a gamble with their quality.
At the very least you will need 3 extra cameras . One in front and two side cameras which are built into the door mirrors . The area view is activated by same button as the park assist . I don't think you get any extra sensors but you do get a visual display of which sensor is activated i.e beeping . You might have that already .
It might be a simple job of bolting in some new cameras without have to rewire the car . Plug and play so to speak.
I would first go to the spare parts guys and get some prices .It might scare you off the idea .
Calling up another VW dealer and asking a parts guy about the retrofit might get you information your original dealer wouldn't provide.
A retrofit should be possible, especially on your dealers dime. They are probably just concerned about what possible issues could arise from adding it after the fact. Not every shop is going to have technicians that would know how to do this properly.

Correct, and for that reason I like to develop a relationship with the dealer because without your ownership experience can be quite chaotic.
