2018 Volkswagen Arteon Specs Announced

Set to make its Australian debut in October, the Volkswagen Group Australia released full specification details for the new Arteon 206TSI R-Line.

Replacing the Passat 206TSI R-Line, the new Arteon will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 206kW of power at around 5100-6500rpm and 350Nm of torque from 1700-5600rpm. Motoring claims the engine will be paired with same seven-speed 'DSG' dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending all that power to the ground via a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. That should be enough to rocket the Arteon from zero to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds.

Coming in as VWs most expensive sedan once it goes on sale, the Arteon will of course come with plenty of safety and convenience systems. Inside the cabin is a head-up display (HUD), a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 9.2-inch 'Discover Pro' multimedia system, ambient interior lighting, keyless access and start, Nappa leather upholstery, driver's seat memory function and heated outer-rear pews.

Externally, the Australia spec Arteons will feature a powered tailgate, dynamic indicators, R-Line bodykit, a set of 19-inch 'Montevideo' alloy wheels, power folding mirrors, dynamic LED headlights and tinted rear windows.

Keeping drivers safe is the proactive occupant protection system, which uses sensors to keep track of traffic behind the Arteon and prepare for impact if needed. If the system anticipates an oncoming fender bender the hazard warning lights will automatically turn on, all windows will close and the seatbelt tensioners will become taut. Whats most impressive in VWs new flagship sedan is the Emergency Assist 2 system, which can take over and steer the vehicle to safety if the driver were to lose consciousness.

Pricing has still not been released yet, but its expected to start around $60,000.

If that's what the Australia spec will get, what will get changed for the US spec as that all sounds very enticing and features that I want. The power folding mirrors especially for when I go to shopping malls and you're forced to park around people who can't drive or open doors for the life of them.

If this was an entirely new model I would be skeptical about some of what's listed but we have the CC and it did well enough. So, i'm thinking because of that a lot of things will be shared with the Aussie and American model.

Can't be much different, maybe just a wheel option lost and electronic features that don't need to be there? I know in different parts of the world, the Euro counterparts get different electronic features time to time?
